February 19, 2008: From Marty "I'm Still Relevant" Bucella- I was surfing around and came across this. Does this make me officially obscure?
February 15, 2008: By the way...the website has been, like, sooooo updated. New look, updated, current news, fresh photos and cartoons sprinkled throughout. I've also updated the members section, with all the links I could find to existing pages for our members what has 'em. In a masterstroke of detective work (if I may be so bold...) I actually managed to find the original web pages of our dearly departed chairman and friend, Tim Rosenthal, tracking them down via the internet archive's (archive.org) Wayback Machine. A little right clicking and tweaking and the main pages rest comfortably on the unycartoonist.com server. What's really neat is all of Tim's old hyperlinks STILL WORK! The connections are a little slow at times because the links are all stored on the archive.org servers, but by God, they work. Check them out when you have a few minutes...MTD
February 2, 2008- Buffalo Brew Pub: Our first meeting of the new year was supposed to be our traditional "After Christmas-Christmas Party", but we just couldn't get enough people to commit to justify reserving a banquet room, not to mention planning a menu and putting a deposit down. Next year, for sure and this time, the Christmas Party might be taking to the road...Only a couple orders of business were on the agenda. We decided to establish a $25 per year dues for non-national NCS members. The national members are exempt from the $25 dues, since they already support the chapter through rebates on their dues to the national organization. We also discussed the direction we would like the chapter to take and we decided, in keeping with the traditions of the NCS, we would keep it old school and be more of a fraternal organization and social club. We discussed possible chapter activities including a bowling night, road trips, fishing trips, going to baseball games as a group and having meetings with other chapters.
We also ate lots of food, quaffed lots of beer and recited as many Monty Python skits as we could remember...
December 1, 2007- Buffalo Brew Pub : The Upstate New York Chapter ended the year by having a gathering at the Buffalo Brew Pub, with two main orders of business on the agenda- officer elections and a salute to our fallen comrade, Bob Bindig, who passed away on November 6th.
Our first order of business was officer elections. The election of a new chapter chair was necessitated by decision of Frank Mariani to step down from that role because he felt other commitments left him unable to fulfill the duties of the office to the level he would have liked. Graham Nolan was elected chapter chair and in his first act as chairman, addressing the second item on this meeting's agenda, he asked that we raise our glasses of adult beverages in tribute and salute to our friend, Bob Bindig. We were blessed to have him in our chapter and honored to call him friend.
The meeting wasn't all business...there was plenty of laughter, drinking, uncomfortable looks from the Brew Pub clientele and photos...which are posted in the photo gallery...
Chairman's Note: Just a quick note for those that were unable to attend the December 1st meeting at the Buffalo Brew Pub last week. The wings were great, the beer was cold and somehow I got elected the new Chapter President/chairman (say...what is my title?).
Dave Boyer, ever handy with the camera, took some great shots, and is
now going to be handling the chapter newsletter...sucker!
I would also like to thank Frank Mariani for stepping up and keeping
our chapter going after John Kovaleski stepped down and moved away (ya
rat!), at a time when the last thing he needed was more responsibilities. Yeoman's work, amigo!
My first order of business was for all to raise a glass to our departed
friend, Bob Bindig. He was a sweet man and a hell of a cartoonist and
he is greatly missed.
I am trying to create a database for our chapter, so if you were not at
the meeting please hit reply and send me all of your contact
information. I will create v-Cards so you can just import them to your
address books.
It's been too long since we have all been together so it is time to get
this chapter jazzed again. We will be having the "After Christmas-Christmas party" again sometime in January and I would like to have gatherings every other month to catch up, show off current work, hang out, draw funny things together and if push comes to shove...quaff a few beers! I would also like to make some road trips towards the center of the state so some of our eastern members won't have to travel so far.
That's it for now. I'll be in touch soon.
Best,
Graham
